Story
INSPIRED by my brave late brother Norman, I've entered the Townsville Running Festival on Sunday, August 3, to raise $1000 for the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) and their aim of zero deaths from melanoma this decade. Norman ran for five years during every kind of treatment for Stage 4 melanoma. He kept working to just a few weeks of his death in Melbourne on May 2. His faith in God, his family and friends and many dedicated doctors and nurses sustained him. I'm inspired too by Georgina Long, the MIA's co-medical director and the 2024 joint Australian of the Year who's dedicated her life to defeating this deadliest of skin cancers. She and her team are making great progress. I'm only running a half-marathon, while Georgina is full-tilt for her goal -- no melnoma deaths five years from now.
