The Big Chop - Part 2
The Big Chop - Part 2
Story
Hi my name is Emily. I am doing the “big chop” again. 6 years ago for my 10th birthday I chopped a massive 38cm of my hair and donated it to Variety the children’s charity and raised over $5000 for the Melanoma Institute Australia. This time, I’m chopping 20cm of my hair to donate it to the Kids with Cancer Foundation for their ‘Wigs 4 Kids’ campaign. I’m also aiming to raise more funds for the Melanoma Institute Australia and promote awareness #getaskincheck. I’d be so grateful for your support whatever that may be, to achieve my goals.
You may ask why I am doing this. This year will mark 12 years since the loss of an amazing man, my Uncle Luke. He had the most contagious laugh and loving soul and he very sadly lost his battle to melanoma when I was 5. I still remember at the time asking “what can I do to help?” From this point I was determined to do something. I decided to grow my hair and do the “big chop” to raise money for the Melanoma Institute Australia.
According to the Cancer Council, melanoma is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. This means that so many people are either directly effected by melanoma or may know a friend or family member who has been diagnosed. So I have decided to fundraise again in memory of Uncle Luke to help support research and all those families who are affected by melanoma. Melanoma Institute Australia has a mission of reaching zero deaths from melanoma this decade. To do this they use the 3 pillars of action: Research, Clinical Care, and Education. With your support it will help to reach the mission of zero deaths from melanoma this decade and would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support. Emily 💗💗
